Start cake business ventures and succeed, with just a few steps. Is that even a reality? The truth is it depends on you. It will work on people who already love to cook and bake and those who are interested in the cake making business. If you have been baking for your family for years, then you can take the skill you have from the kitchen to a bigger market and earn a pretty good income along the way. By trying to explore the business of cake making, you might even be able to find your niche.

But to begin a business of this nature, what do you need to have?

1. Skill. Either it is management or cooking skills, you need to have one or both of these skills. If you are a good manager, but not a very good baker, then you can still set up a business like this because you can hire a baker and a decorator to work for you. Your business skills are also important so that you can connect with suppliers and look at the books and manage your income well. But if you are not so good with the management and accounting aspect, but you can bake a pretty darn good cake, then your business can also work because you can hire someone to take care of the books for you. Either way, as long as you have the capital, an accounting and a production arm to man the business, you will be fine because you can learn the stuff you are not initially expert at later on as you go along. However, if you are simply not interested in cakes and you do not have passion for this kind of work, better skip it and invest on something else.

Candles create excitement, whether with children, or adults. Blowing candles out makes a special celebration of any event.

There are many types of candles on the market, and many different colours. Always make sure the colour of the candles blends with the decoration on the cake. Although candles aren’t normally seen on wedding anniversary cakes, red, gold or silver candles on these cakes would make a talking point.

Make sure candles stay upright. Instead of than pushing them into the cake surface, place them in a candleholder. Candleholders are available to match the colour of the candles. They are also sold in gold and silver. Candles look better if grouped together – it gives them more impact, and make it easier to blow out in one puff!

And on a grown-ups cake candles look more interesting if they are cut to slightly different levels.

Self-lighting candles give everyone a surprise, especially the person who is trying to blow them out, and finds the candles re-light themselves again and again!

A well decorated cake can be a piece of art, but it is all too easy to make a mistake and ruin your masterpiece when you are under pressure to create something for a special celebration. You can avoid mistakes by being aware of the most common ones, and it may not be impossible to fix things if something does go wrong.

Go through the tips given here and you will be more than ready for the special occasion...

The cake should be prepared far enough in advance to cool and settle properly before you begin to decorate it. You will also need to allow plenty of time to decorate it, and to allow the decoration to set if necessary.

Make sure you are beginning with the best possible base. If the cake sank, flatten it out with jam or frosting, or by cutting it down. If the frosting is pulling up a lot of crumbs, then put a think layer of icing on first, and add the main layer only when it has set.

You should always ensure you have plenty of frosting or icing to cover the cake, as it will look uneven if you try to spread it too thin, and fondant icing will crack and tear. Fondant can also tend to buckle around the base, but if you are quick you can fix this by lifting the icing and smoothing or re-moistening the sides of the cake. If the fondant has already set, then you could tie a ribbon around the cake to conceal the problem.

Cake Decorating Frosting

Beautiful cakes are not just for big bucks on extra-special occasions. You can learn easy cake decorating ideas that you can do yourself to make even an ordinary boxed cake mix look extraordinary. With a few simple tools and techniques and the easy cake decorating ideas in this article, you'll be able to make a beautiful cake yourself at home.

Icing The Cake

Most of the time, you'll want to start with smooth icing all over the cake as the base for all of these easy cake decorating ideas. To get a smooth surface, make sure the cake is completely cooled and your frosting is not too thick. Thinner icing will spread more easily and end up with a smoother finish.

First, put a very thin layer of frosting all over the cake. This is called the crumb coat, and it will keep crumbs from getting mixed in with the frosting that you'll see on the finished cake. At this point, you can refrigerate the cake to set the crumb coat and make it easier to apply the top coat.

Next, use an icing spatula to put on the second coat of icing. Start with a large amount of icing in the middle of the top of the cake and spread it toward the edges. When the top of the cake is completely covered, cover the sides of the cake. To smooth the sides, hold the spatula straight up and down and hold the edge against the cake as you spin the plate.

Cake Decorating Designs

I am no baker. That is I'd by no means put myself forward as a cook at all, unless you'd call making spaghetti and browning minced-meat for bolognaise sauce culinary achievements. However, there's something about special occasions that brings the frustrated pastry chef out of me and sends me galoping into the kitchen, my head jammed with intricate cake decorating ideas.

It all started when my wife was approaching her thirtieth birthday. I decided to mark her entry into her fourth decade by baking her an amazing cake.I imagined her admiring gaze as she watched me pull this monstrous cake from the hidden depths of our under-used oven.By this time I was so keen to get started that I had to force myself to calm down, sit down, and get my ideas down on paper.I began to sketch a few decorating schemes in red pen on the back of an envelope in time-honored tradition, and eventually decided on a colossal triple-layer chocolate gateau with an enormous suspension bridge spanning a river of blue icing and a little plastic model of our family car perched in safety on top.

I'd like to be able to say that my cake decorating ideas usually come out as gorgeous as I imagine them, but I’m just not so good at being economical with the truth. In this case, the lovely triple-layer chocolate supension bridge cake decorating fantasy turned out as three limp, amorphous layers, crisp at the edges and doughy in the middle, featuring a delightful San Andreas fault running through the centre, as if there had been an earthquake in the oven.It tasted alright but it looked like something that had been salvaged from its own private earthquake.

Wedding Cake Decoration

Whether purchased from the grocery store or made to your own recipe, fondant icing is an excellent icing choice for wedding cakes and for other "special occasion" cakes. Drying to a smooth alabaster finish, it can be applied to cakes of all shapes and makes the perfect base for the most inticate or simplest of decoration.

Fondant icing is a soft sugar-based icing that is generally rolled out to a thickness of about 1/4 inch, layed over the cake and smoothed and pressed into place before being trimmed for a perfect fit.

Despite the fact that fondant cake decorations are ideal for wedding cakes, fondant icing is not always easy to work with so here are a few tips to help you get that perfect result.

Tip 1. A thin layer of icing, referred to as a "crumb coat" should be applied to the cake before the fondant icing is added. This produces a sticky surface for the fondant to stick to.

Tip 2. To prevent it from drying out, fondant icing should be put in a plastic bag (or covered with a non-permeable plastic wrap such as Sara wrap) and then placed in a tightly sealed container. The container should be kept at cool room temperature and should never be refrigerated. If the icing dries out and harden it can usually be revived by putting it into the microwave for a few seconds and then kneading the life back into it.

Fondant Cakes Decorating

After you spend countless hours getting your cake to look perfect it can be a little disheartening when people seem to be afraid to eat your cake. Chances are, if you're like most cake decorators, you want your cakes to look good and attract lots of attention. However, at the same time you also want them to taste good too!

Sometimes this can be a challenge when working with fondant but it doesn't have to be impossible! With a little extra effort you can decorate a cake that both looks and tastes delicious.

The main benefit of fondant is that, unlike buttercream frosting, in a fairly short amount of time you can have a silky, perfect-looking cake.

In just a matter of minutes you can roll out your fondant, cover your cake, and smooth. You can also use fondant to create interesting shapes and figures for your cake that you wouldn't be able to do with plain frosting.

Accomplishing the same thing with buttercream frosting can be nearly impossible, even for the most dedicated cake decorator. However, fondant doesn't always taste as good as buttercream.

A general fondant cake decorating rule of thumb is not to buy store bought fondant. Especially if you want people to eat it! Unfortunately, most professional cake decorators agree that ready-made fondant doesn't taste very good, especially the Wilton brand.

60th Birthday Cakes

Our obsession started when our son developed an interest in fire trucks before his third birthday. He's always been a terrible sleeper and having exhausted all other methods of helping him sleep, we had turned to watching cake-decorating shows on Youtube. It worked every time and allowed us to enjoy our nights without meltdowns or hysteria. It also sparked an intense desire for a fire truck cake in his little brain. Because we are on a very limited income, we decided to make him one as a present.

One night, we pooled my three years of fine arts in university with his seven years of graphic design training and sat down to create the mother of all fire trucks. It was a great deal of fun. We sat in our kitchen until much past our bed times and molded parts out of fondant. We dyed and rolled and pounded until we were satisfied. Our son, Holden, was satisfied too as was the other eager toddler boys at his party. By the time the celebration was over, we had received plenty of compliments as well as a request for a Thomas Train cake from my sister in law.

40th Birthday Cakes

There's an old saying that says "life begins at 40" so the party for this occasion should be more than just another birthday party, it should be a celebration of the beginning of a new life. All your friends and colleagues should be invited to your 40th birthday to celebrate with you. You should look at it as a chance to show you are still enthusiastic and have a passion for life.

If you are planning a theme for the party, make sure to include that in the invitations and send them out well in advance. There are a number of computer software programs that will allow you to be creative and customize your invitations and this makes for a nice touch.

Here are some themes and 40th birthday party ideas:

* Surprise party - few parties are more memorable than surprise parties. Make sure all the invitees are aware it's a surprise so the cat is not let out of the bag.

* Play "This Is Your Life" just like the TV show. It's a terrific but seldom used 40th birthday party idea! Put together a book that chronicles the entire life history including pictures, newsclippings and other memorabilia. A PowerPoint presentation is a great way to go too. Make sure to invite plenty of people from their past and dramatically introduce them one by one.

Christening Cakes Decorating

Who would think that cakes made in bakeries contain nasty, artery-clogging, cell-altering trans fatty acids? Most people don’t even think about it or read the ingredients, and sadly, some people don’t even care. As long as they’re able to quickly get cakes for special occasions, they could care less. Bakeries often use trans fatty acids in place of butter, in ‘butter’ cream frosting. This is totally ridiculous! Their rationale for using this (shortening, such a Crisco is trans fatty acids!) is because it stays solid for longer periods of time, unlike butter. But it isn’t butter, and it isn’t healthy.

There is a long list of other unhealthy items that are regularly used in cakes, but you don’t have to continue to put that poison into your family’s bodies. You have one of two choices, well three, actually, but I don’t think that many people want to totally give up cake. You can either buy your cakes from a whole foods bakery or bake them yourself. Whole foods bakeries specialize in baking all of their items without all that unnecessary garbage. If you order butter cream frosting, you get real butter cream frosting, not trans fatty acid cream! You may think that the taste of the cakes may be compromised, but this is untrue. The taste is actually tastier without those toxin-producing chemicals. It will help you to realize that chemicals even taste nasty!

If you choose not to pay a few extra bucks to get cakes from a whole foods bakery, then why not bake your own? As long as you have the right equipment, you can produce delicious, healthy cakes for your family and friends. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never baked before, it is possible to do. Just find any of your favorite cake recipes and substitute the ingredients for healthy ones. I guarantee you that your friends and family won’t know the difference, unless you tell them.

Cupcake Cakes Decorating

Everyone loves Christmas and you'll probably agree that decorations are a major part of the holiday. And what would Christmas be without all the baked goodies and sweet treats? As for me and my family, this involves cupcake decorations. The inclination to over-indulge in such sweets is more common around the holidays. So, I sincerely hope you’ll enjoy these artistic and quirky Christmas cupcake ideas - crafting as well as eating them.

• Begin with your favorite cupcake recipe by baking them or buying a ready-made one from your favorite bakeshop. Generously top them with white frosting, add some shredded coconut, dust it with a powdered or confectioner’s sugar and voila! a mini-winter-wonderland in a yummy cup.

• These are great for parties all year-round and particularly at Christmas time. The idea is to form a miniature Christmas present at the top each cupcake. Use an assortment of icing colors; red licorice works well for the ribbons and bows. Pitch in a small amount of sprinkles, if preferred.

• Santa's face never look so yummy! Top each of your favorite cupcakes with a red frosting on one side and white on the other. Put some mini marshmallows at the border separating the two colors, forming it as Santa's hat brim. Cautiously use brown chocolate or green frosting to form his face on the white side of the icing. You may use, round candies for Santa's eyes and nose. Thin out strips of various edible goodies such as fruit roll-up cutouts, and thin licorice whips, to use as Santa’s smiling lips.

Celebration Cakes

Birthday is a day a human being leaves the womb. It marks the beginning of life outside of the womb. It is quite common in most western cultures to celebrate the anniversary of our birthday. Having a birthday party in the company of friends and family is a common example of a birthday celebration. Birthday gifts are usually part of birthday celebrations. Birthday gifts are given to the person celebrating the birthday. It is common practice to treat people especially on their birthday

.It is believed that birthday celebrations date back to ancient Persia. The tradition is known to have spread to the West by Roman soldiers. Prior to the Persian influence birthday celebration is not part of Western civilization. Birthday celebrations were uncommon during medieval times but saw an increase in popularity with the arrival of the Reformation. During this time, birthdays were seen as a excellent way to transfer customs from the saint's days to other dates not linked to the newly repudiated veneration of saints.

Although the celebration of birthdays is wide spread in the West, it is not celebrated everywhere. For example, Jehovah's Witnesses refuse to celebrate birthdays. They consider birthdays celebrations pagan festivals along with Christmas and Easter. Despite that fact the birthdays are celebrated in most Western countries, many adults hate celebrating their birthdays as they serve as reminders of passing time.

Cake Ideas

A great way to make your wedding extra special is with a gorgeous wedding cake. The cake is much more than a dessert, it is one of the key decorative elements at the reception. These are some fantastic ideas for winter wedding cakes.

Snowflakes are one of the loveliest motifs for winter weddings. They can be used in everything from your crystal wedding jewelry to the invitations to favors. Snowflakes also look great on a wedding cake. This motif works beautifully in an icy color like white, pale blue, or silver. A simple fondant cake with ice blue frosting can be decorated with piped snowflakes in white or silver, scattered around the tiers like falling snow. Mix up the sizes and designs of the snowflakes for the best effect. A variation on this concept is to use large snowflakes spaced evenly around the cake as a graphic element. This is a terrific modern take on the classic "Winter Wonderland" wedding theme.

Speaking of the Winter Wonderland idea, you can use it as a terrific point of inspiration for a wedding cake. An all white cake is always a classic; for a formal winter wedding, it can be personalized with a heavy dusting of a shimmer powder to give it glitz and glamor. A wide silver satin ribbon can be wrapped around the base of each tier, then top it all off with a crystal monogram cake topper. The effect is elegant and modern, yet festive and not at all plain. This style of cake is gorgeous with crystal wedding jewelry, especially when done with the crystal cake topper.
