Cake Decorating Techniques

If you have only just discovered this rewarding hobby, practicing the basic cake decorating techniques will build the foundation for more ambitious creations later on.First and foremost, don't get discouraged! You shouldn't judge your abilities by your first few cakes. Just as riding a bicycle is awkward in the beginning, practice makes it effortless pleasure. It will take some time for your hand to become steadier,to learn to maintain even pressure on the pastry bag, and to achieve level looking cakes.

There are some strategies for making it easier. If you haven't already done so, I would recommend that you make yourself a batch of practice icing to get the feel for the commoncake decorating techniques. You can pipe directly on a cookie pan and then just s

crape it off to reuse.Practice icing will keep for months in an airtight container.

Master the simple cake decorating instructions on a pan before trying them on the cake. It's tempting to use every technique you know on the same cake, but selecting a few and keeping it simple will give you better results. You wouldn't want the cake to look too busy. If you are writing on the cake, do that first, so you leave yourself enough room. It's easy to get carried away with decorations and then you'll find yourself lacking the space to fit the message.
